Introduction
After adding a subject, you can create assessment groups and assessments to centralise all your grading data for academic reporting. After an assessment is created for a subject, teachers can use the marks book to add grades.
You can also add learning outcomes and weighting to assessments/assessment groups, which allows total scores/ranks to be automatically calculated once grades are entered.
Add learning outcomes to a subject
Learning outcomes describe the knowledge and skills the topic aims to achieve.
There are 2 different types of learning outcomes:
• Syllabus outcome: learning criteria/outcomes will automatically be visible when creating an assessment if a syllabus is assigned to the subject.
• Custom outcome: added to an assessment to define learning criteria customised by the school if it’s different to the syllabus available in Zunia.
To add a custom outcome so that teachers can grade an assessment against the relevant learning criteria, go to Subjects and assessments.
- Select the subject to view assessment groups, assessments and learning outcomes inside.
- In Learning outcomes enter the following details:
- Title: Add a title for the knowledge or skill that students will aim to achieve or complete in this learning outcome. For example, in Year 4 Division, the learning outcome could be ‘Solve division problems with remainders’; In Year 7 Maths Numbers and Algebra, the learning outcome could be 'Solve straightforward linear equations'.
- Description: Add a description of how students will achieve the learning outcome. For example, in Year 9 Maths students will 'Explore the relationship between graphs and equations corresponding to simple rate problems.’
3. Select Add learning outcome if you need more learning outcomes for this assessment.
4. Select Save.
You’ve created a custom learning outcome for this subject. Now you can assign it to an assessment so it can be graded in the marks book.
Edit an or assign learning outcomes to an assessment
To edit/delete an assessment or a learning outcome to an assessment, go to Subjects and assessments:
- Select the subject to view assessment groups, assessments and learning outcomes inside.
- Go to Assessments and select the 3-dot icon
. - Select Edit to update the assessment and/or add learning criteria or outcomes. You can also remove individual outcomes within the assessment by selecting the grey cross
. - Select Delete to remove the whole assessment and any learning criteria/outcomes attached to it.
- To confirm your changes, select Save assessment.
You’ve updated the assessment and learning outcomes for this subject.
Note: You can only delete an assessment or outcome if it has no grades attached to it in the related marks book. To delete any record of assessment, you need to delete all grades from the marks book first, then delete the assessment/group or outcome.
Apply weighting to assessments and assessment groups
Assessment scores are automatically calculated as an average of all items in a assessment group, unless custom weighting is applied.
Adding custom weighting to an assessment and/or assessment group will affect the way students total grades and ranks are calculated in marks book. Weights must add up to 100% across the assessments/assessment groups within the subject.
For example, you might have an assessment group for all Sem 1 assessments that’s made up of 2 assessments. If one assessment is worth 40% and the other 60%, and the group makes up 50% of the students total grade for the year, the other group assigned to the same year level must equal 50%, so the total score calculated in the marks book adds up to 100% of a students’ overall grade.
To apply custom weighting, go to Subjects and assessments and select the subject the assessment belongs to.
- Select Assessment groups or Assessments.
- Select the 3-dot icon
relating to the item in the table that you want to apply weighting to.. - Select Manage weights.
- Add the weight as a percentage for each assessment or assessment group within the subject, then Save.
You’ve applied custom weighting to an assessment or group of assessments.
