There will be times when you'll need to updated family data when parents die.
To do this in Zunia, there are steps you need to take across both the parents' and their child or children's profile.
Steps to take when a parent is deceased.
For this example, we’re going to use Mr Lyle and Mrs Naomi Jeffries. Lyle died on 15 August.
Once logged in to Zunia, let’s bring up Lyle's community profile, go to the relationships tab and click on the ellipses and select Break spouse link from the options presented.
This will prompt you to enter a new spouse relationship - in this instance, as Lyle has died the new spouse relationship to apply to Naomi is Widow. You can scroll through the options or start typing in the field.
Once you click Update, you’ll be asked to set parents separated flags.
As Lyle is deceased, we’ll untick the check boxes as these are used for separations.
When you click update, you’ll see that the relationship field for Naomi has been updated to Widow.
Your school’s policy or government reporting may or may not require you to remove Lyle from their children’s student contacts.
If you are required to remove Lyle from their children’s student contacts, find Lyle’s daughter Islene in Current students under Student profiles.
Click on Contacts and click on View near Lyle’s name. When the student contacts modal pops up, click Delete. Note that if Lyle was the only contact marked as living with Islene, we won’t be able to delete this contact record. You’ll need to update the lives with flag on another contact before you can remove the deceased parent as a contact.
While we’re still in the Islene’s student record, let’s update the legal information.
Click on the Legal tab and click edit. Tick the Deceased parent checkbox and enter details around Lyle’s death here - for example; Lyle, passed away 2023.
You’ll need to repeat these steps for each of Lyle’s children in Zunia.
From there we need go back to Lyle’s profile and toggle the Deceased switch on and enter the date Lyle died.
That's how you handle a deceased parent in Zunia.
It doesn’t matter what order you complete the tasks in above but, it’s important to know that Zunia won’t let you mark a profile deceased while the spouse link is not broken or the student contact lives with flag is not removed.
You'll need to work out on a case by case basis what happens with the debtor account in Zunia in relation to deceased parents. Your school's policy and whatever legal arrangements are in place will need to be considered before making changes in Zunia. Support are available to work through making these considerations work in Zunia with your school as they happen.
