Let's look at the steps to take when parents are separated.
For this example, we're going to use Mr Garrick and Mrs Kaley Addison. Garrick will be leaving the family home.
Let's bring up Garrick’s community profile, go to the relationships tab and click on the ellipses and select Break spouse link from the options presented.
This will prompt you to enter a new spouse relationship - in this instance, the new spouse relationship to apply to Kaley is Ex Wife. You can scroll through the options or start typing in the field.
Once you click Update, you'll be asked to set parents separated flags.
Make sure the boxes are checked here.
When you click update, you'll see that the relationship field for Kaley has been updated to Ex Wife.
Now, we need to update the address in Garrick's profile and click edit. Type in the new address details and uncheck the Update address for household to make sure those remaining in the original address are not moving over to Garrick’s new address. Update the postal address if needed. Save the new address.
Then we need to update Garrick's children's student contact flags.
To do this, open the child's student record and click on the Contacts tab. Click view beside Garrick's name and then click edit. In the edit screen, untick Day to day carer and Lives with student checkboxes.
While we're still in the child's record, let's update the legal information.
Click on the Legal tab. You should see the parent’s separated flag ticked from when you set the parents separated flag. Click edit to add parents separated details and parenting arrangements as required. Click save.
Add any court order and custody notes.
And repeat the steps around student contacts and legal tab for each of Garrick's children in Zunia.
That's how you handle separated parents in Zunia.
Other considerations
You'll need to work out on a case by case basis what happens with the debtor account in Zunia in relation to deceased or separated parents. Your school's policy and whatever legal arrangements are in place will need to be considered before making changes in Zunia. Support are available to work through making these considerations work in Zunia with your school as they happen.
